10 cars you can stake will be classics

It's hard to identify what cars will be future classics. Oh sure, some of them are observable damn near any exotic will surely go up in value sooner or later, and it's hard to go incorrect with a limited-edition ride like the Porsche 911 Sport Classic.

However what about the cars that aren't so clear? What models sitting in showrooms might be the next 1966 Shelby Mustang GT350? The guys at Hagerty Insurance Agency believe they know. Each year the company, which bills itself as "the world leader in collector car insurance," takes a glance at everything in showrooms and compiles its "hot list" of 10 future collector cars.

We have fun each year appearing at which new vehicles symbolize the characteristics of collector cars, to assist predict which ones might have classic appeal in 15 to 20 years, CEO McKeel Hagerty said in a statement. The Hot List is our predict for which cars manufactured this year will grasp their value and consumer appeal long sufficient to one day is regarded as collectible.

Given that it's a yearly list, all of the cars are 2011 models. The catalog is Hagerty's, the comments are ours. It's certain to spark some debate -- lists forever do -- so feel free to spout off in the comments.

Nissan Leaf triumphs Car of the Year

The world's first mass formed battery electric car wins the premier European award.

Nissan's battery electric Leaf has succeeded the European Car of the Year award by a clear margin of nine points.

The £23,990 five-door family tailgate goes on sale in March in the UK and will be the first-ever mass-produced pure electric vehicle on sale to the public.

The Leaf won 257 votes from the 58 adjudicators across 23 European countries. Alfa Romeo's Giulietta was in second place with 248 points, Vauxhall's Meriva in third place with 244 points and Ford's C-Max fifth place with 224.
